The full form of HBsAg is hepatitis B surface antigen. HBsAg test is advised by the doctor to determine whether the individual is infected with the hepatitis B virus. During the test, if the hepatitis B virus is found along with some other specific antibodies, then it is confirmed that the individual is having a hepatitis B infection.
Hepatitis B infection is a severe liver infection caused due to the hepatitis B virus (HBV). For some individuals, hepatitis B infection becomes chronic, which means it lasts over six months.
The chronic hepatitis B alarms the risk of developing liver cancer, liver failure or cirrhosis. However, proper vaccination can prevent hepatitis B, but there exists no cure if it is diagnosed. Further, taking few precautions prevents the spreading of HBV to others.
