When orgasm is experienced by a man and semen is expelled soon after the sexual activity with minimum penile stimulation, such a situation is called premature ejaculation (PE). Early ejaculation, rapid climax, premature climax, ejaculation praecox and rapid ejaculation are some other names by which it is referred.

The International Society for sexual medicines has concluded that the ejaculation that occurs at the very beginning of the sexual intercourse say within 15 seconds is termed as premature ejaculations.

Premature ejaculation is the inability to delay the ejaculation of the semen. If such situation occurs frequently, medical consultation is necessary. This problem can occur in all ages, but it is the middle-aged men that are more affected by it.

Symptoms of Premature Ejaculation

One of the major symptoms of premature ejaculation is the inability to delay the ejaculation not more than 15 seconds. The premature ejaculations are divided into two categories primary and secondary also known as lifelong and acquired respectively.

When a person experiences early ejaculation from the very beginning that means from his first sexual intercourse, he is said to have a primary or lifelong ejaculation. If this problem of early ejaculation is developed later that means after prior sexual experience it is termed as secondary or acquired ejaculation.

Premature ejaculation develops a feeling of embarrassment in men that can even result in depression. One should not avoid such symptoms and should consult a good doctor regarding the problem.

Diagnosis of PE

The first step is to diagnose PE is to check that the patient is suffering from lifetime ejaculation or acquired premature ejaculation.

The doctor can conduct a physical examination. Generally, previous history is also considered. However, in some cases it doctors recommend a visit to the urologist or you can say a mental health expert. Blood test and urine test are also recommended in some cases.

Treatment for PE

There are several ways and medications by which the PE can be treated. Anesthetic sprays and creams are also helpful in this problem. Antidepressants, analgesics and phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors are some other medicines that are suggested for PE patients. 

Counseling or you can say talk therapy is also helpful. There are some techniques such as pause squeeze technique and the behavioral techniques that are instructed by the doctor for better effect.
